With just eight weeks remaining until Election Day, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have officially taken the stage for their first—and possibly only—presidential debate tonight. This highly anticipated event marks their first public encounter on stage following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race in July, a decision many believe stemmed from his previous debate performance against Trump.
Harris Advocates for Middle-Class Tax Relief
Harris opened up about giving a $50,000 tax deduction to start up small businesses and said, “I was raised as a middle-class kid, and I am actually the only person on this stage who has a plan that is about lifting up the middle class and working people of America.”
Trump Defends His Economic Policies
While Trump stressed that his economy was great, Harris immediately countered, “Donald Trump has no plan for you and he left the worst attack on our democracy since the civil war.”
Trump’s Attacks on Harris
Trump launched fresh new attacks on Harris during the presidential debate, claiming she has adopted his own political philosophy. “I was going to send her a MAGA hat,” Trump remarked, adding, “It will be the end of our country. She’s a Marxist, everybody knows she’s a Marxist. Her father is a Marxist professor. He taught her well.”
Abortion Rights Take Center Stage
Harris promises to bring back national abortion rights. She said, “One does not have to abandon their faith, or deeply held beliefs, to agree with the government and Trump certainly should not be telling a woman what to do with her body.”
Harris Reveals Trump’s ‘Kill the Deal’ Scheme
Harris opened up about her support for a bipartisan border security bill, which would have added 1,500 border agents and helped combat fentanyl smuggling into the U.S. She said, “I know so many families watching who have been personally affected by the surge of fentanyl. That bill would have allowed resources to prosecute those for trafficking guns and drugs and human beings. You know what happened to the bill? Donald Trump got on the phone, called up folks in Congress and said, ‘kill the bill’.”
Harris Makes a Strong Comeback
Harris, who seemed nervous at first, came back with a strong reply after she said ‘I grew up middle class’ for the second time. She stood strong against Trump and said, “My work that is about protecting social security and Medicare is based on long-standing work that I have done protecting seniors from scams.”
Trump Calls for Border Walls
Trump stressed about the border security issues and said ‘we need walls.’ He urged Harris to go back to Washington right now and close the borders and added, “She has been so bad and ridiculous tonight.”
